Life or Death?

Mark sandwiches the story of John's beheading between Jesus' miraculous signs in order to prime the pump.  He wants the reader to understand that no one is righteous, not the poor, nor the rich.  In addition we are meant to see the vast contrast between the evil the world desires that brings death, versus the good that God desires that brings love and life.
